Hawks are some of the most powerful birds of the air. They are both beautiful and frightening at the same time. They have a keen sense of sight and are powerful hunters. On breezy days you can watch them soaring high in the air.
In the Hawks After School Program we will develop our keen sense of sight through scout skills and playing games that will invite us to be like the animals living on the land – we will learn to move both swiftly and silently on our adventures.
There will be opportunities for foraging in the woods for medicinal plants and edible plants. We will examine mushrooms, follow animal tracks, explore, sit quietly in introspective space, and there will be plenty of games.
We will work on skills such as knife carving, knife sharpening, building and crafting with natural materials such as basketry and cordage making.
We hang out and talk about life while exploring the forest with friends. And… There are SO many more things we can and will do!
Every program at Wild Intelligence has its own flavor. The Hawks Afterschool Program will be no different. This program is geared specifically for our Middle School Aged Participants. We know this a time in life where transition is inevitable. We believe that having this process steeped in good friends, awesome and fun mentors while learning skills of our ancestors can only help build confidence and trust in oneself and one’s world.
In order to keep our programs fresh and engaging we bring a variety of opportunities to our programs. Some weeks we will be in clans – which are aged and experience based groups, some weeks we have guilds which are choice based arts, crafts, or skill based groups. We also incorporate community days with seasonal celebrations, talent and untalent shows, trade blankets, and games.
